Hunza

-Hunza

What is Hunza?

In 1949, Ernest T. Krebs, Jr. said that cancer is a dietary deficiency disease and eating seven apricot kernels a day not only prevented cancer; it could cure it. He named the active compound Laetrile and designated it as Vitamin B17. The actual compound extracted from Apricot or Almond kernels is Amygdalin. Laetrile is derived from Amygdalin.

Vitamin B17 (Laetrile) – found in bitter almonds and certain other natural foods – is one of a group of naturally occurring compounds known as “cyanogenic glycosides”; they are “cyanogenic” because they break down to release the compound cyanide after interacting with certain types of enzymes. In case of amygdalin, it yields cyanide and the volatile compound benzaldehyde when it is cleaved by the enzyme beta-glucosidase. Under the trade-name “Laetrile”, amygdalin has been used in cancer therapy for over 40 years.

Hunza contains Laetrile (or Vit B17), Reishi extract 240mg, and Vitamin C 240mg. Hunza is a natural herbal supplement that can be used in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Apricot kernels are the richest natural source of B17.

What about Cancer?

Like cancer, scurvy was believed to be incurable. Then, in 1747 it was discovered that it was simply caused by a lack of vitamin C. Today, many people believe that eating apricot kernels, a food source rich in a vitamin called B17, can protect against, and maybe even help to cure, cancer. Add Lib investigates the controversial claims behind B17 and asks, is it possible that it may be to cancer what vitamin C was to scurvy?

In the early 1900s, large portions of the American Southeast were decimated by the dread disease of pellagra. Many physicians of the time said that it was a contagious disease and probably caused by a yet to be discovered virus. In 1914 Dr. Joseph Goldberger drank body fluid from pellagrans to prove it wasn’t catching and later showed that it could be prevented by eating liver or yeast. But it wasn’t until the 1940s that the medical world accepted that pellegra was a vitamin B deficiency

Cancer is now regarded as a chronic metabolic disease, and in history, these – scurvy, rickets, pellagra, beriberi – have only ever been conquered by a change in nutrition. “We work on the premise that the human body becomes the sum total of what it absorbs,” says one former NHS (UK) doctor who now runs a clinic specialising in a nutritional approach to the treatment of metabolic disease. “Many of today’s serious disorders are caused primarily as a result of dysfunctional diet and the way the body processes what we put into it.” (“A chronic disease is one which usually does not pass away of its own accord. A metabolic disease is one which occurs within the body and is not transmittable to another person.”) [G. Edward Griffin World Without Cancer (American Media, California, 1974 and 1997) p56-57]

Cancer is the name given to any illness resulting from one of our body’s own cells growing out of control. Normally, the immune system can deal with this but at times of stress or in a particularly weak part of the body, or under extreme or regular exposure to carcinogens, the multiplication can become too great to handle and cells can turn cancerous. “When Laetrile/B17 comes into contact with a cancer cell, an

enzyme in the cancer cell breaks it down and releases cyanide, which destroys the cancer cell,” says says Sue Cannon, founder of anticancer.co.uk, a website that provides information on B17. “Normal, healthy cells have a different enzyme, which breaks down B17 in a different way, releasing food for the cells.” Apricot kernels are said to be highly nutritious, rich in fibre and effective in lowering blood pressure.

Why choose Hunza?

Hunza provides alternative therapy for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Hunza is a herbal agent whose anti-tumour action was known empirically for many years, but in the last thirty five years has been scientifically proven, primarily through the clinical studies directed by well respected metabolic physicians around the world. Among them are Dr. Ernesto Contreras Rodriguez, of the Oasis of Hope Hospital (Formerly Centro Medico y Hospital Del Mar at Playas de Tijuana, B.C.N. Mexico); Dr. Ernst T. Krebs, Jr., who developed Laetrile; Dr. Philip E. Binzel, Jr., a physician in Washington Court House, Ohio, who has used Laetrile for over twenty years with outstanding success just to name a few; and many others from over twenty countries with equally impeccable credentials. Hunza also contains Reshi whose botanical name is Ganoderma Lucidium, a herbal agent derived from mushrooms which helps to boost the immune system; as well as Vitamin C which is very well known as an antioxidant.

What is Alternative Therapy?

The phrase alternative therapy is used to describe a wide range of treatments which, generally, are not available from conventional doctors. In the treatment of cancer, conventional medicine includes surgery, chemotherapy (the use of drugs), and radiation. By contrast, alternative therapy includes nutritional supplements, enzymes, diet, detoxification, change in life style, stress control, prevention, alkaline diet and biofeedback.

The immune system is the body’s front-line defense against cancer. Although there have been some notable improvements in chemotherapy and radiation technologies, these approaches impact the immune system and many believe they can actually cause cancer if one does not detoxify the body and rebuild the immune system after these approaches are used. Typically nutritional supplementation and other forms of alternative therapy help to strengthen the immune system and help the body to overcome cancer. Practitioners of conventional medicine are in the majority, and patients are well informed about these options. Many patients, however, are not aware of alternative therapies. It is the purpose of organizations like the Cancer Cure Foundation and CancerFreeNigeria.org etc, to make that information available so they can make an informed choice.

Prevention or Treatment?

Hunza can both be used for prevention and treatment. However, according to Cannon, it appears that Laetrile/B17’s most vital role is in prevention. “If we could just raise awareness so that people started eating foods that contain Laetrile, as well as other natural substances shown to prevent it, cancer could become a rare anomaly like scurvy,” she says.

Isolated tribes around the world are used to support this theory. The Abkhazians, the Hopi and Navajo Indians, the Eskimos and the Karakorum are all known for their exceptional health and marked absence of degenerative disease. And all eat a diet rich in Vitamin B17 from various food sources including cassava, caribou and salmon berries. But for the ultimate testimony to B17’s preventative powers, supporters refer to the remote Himalayan tribe of Hunza. (You can see where the name of the product is derived from) Here, a man’s wealth is measured by the number of apricot trees he owns. Apricot kernels are eaten abundantly with the kernels also pressed for cooking oil and fuel. The traditional Hunza diet also includes buckwheat, millet, alfalfa, broad beans and sprouting pulses, all of which contain B17. This diet provides an average of 50 – 75mg of B17 a day, which is more than the average Westerner ingests during a year. Hunzas commonly live to beyond 100 and, up until very recently when new roads allowed a glut of novelties such as sugar and junk food to reach its people for the first time, Hunza had never had a single case of cancer in its 900-year existence. It remains virtually unheard of.

There is no magic formula to cancel out the cancer risk that comes with an unhealthy lifestyle. Smoking is inadvisable, a diet rich in fruit and vegetables is essential and restriction of processed foods, red meat and dairy is recommended. However, for those already leading a relatively healthy life, B17 is said to be the single most important thing one can do to protect oneself against cancer. Dr Ernst T Krebs Jr., the biochemist who first ‘discovered’ B17, said that if a normal healthy adult were to eat ten to twelve apricot kernels a day for life, they would be unlikely to get cancer. The Food Standards Agency UK, however, has recently issued a warning about the possible risks of excess consumption of apricot kernels due to their cyanide content and is currently recommending a maximum dose of two kernels per day.

But according to Cannon, many people are regularly eating the kernels without any adverse side effects. “I know countless people who have been eating ten to twelve kernels per day for years without any problems,” she says. “In fact many people have noticed a marked improvement in their general heath and wellbeing.” In the second edition of his book World Without Cancer, author G. Edward Griffin says that in the 20 years since the first edition, he had met two people who claimed to have contracted cancer after regularly eating kernels. However he says it is unknown how many kernels they ate, whether they smoked or were exposed to other carcinogens – but in one case the diet was known to be “atrocious”. Griffin admits it is not 100 per cent perfect but asks, “would you accept 99 per cent?”
